Mercedes and Ferrari put in a double 1-2 in Saturday’s practice session, with Lewis Hamilton putting his silver arrow at the top of the timesheets once again. Sebastian Vettel recovered from an abysmal Friday to pull in behind Hamilton followed by Valtteri Bottas and Kimi Raikkonen. Max Verstappen rounded out the top 5 while he faces a grid penalty for a sixth engine and MGU-H. Rookie Brendon Hartley put his Toro Rosso in 15th and Haas’ Romain Grosjean spun. Again.
Hamilton, in no surprise, topped the timesheets for qualifying with a blistering 1:33.108 ahead of Sebastian Vettel who rolled thru with a 1:33.347 in an attempt to keep his title hopes alive. Bottas followed in third ahead of Daniel Ricciardo and Raikkonen to round out the top 5. Max Verstappen put in a 1:33.658 which saw him sit in 6th, though he faces a 15-place grid penalty.
