United States GP: Day 1

Whew! The action is hard to keep up with when you’re actually at the track for race weekend. Dampness settled over the track Friday morning before opening up for a little rain prior to the Free Practice 1 session. Lewis Hamilton lead FP1 at the end but not before it saw a change of lead a few times due to changing track conditions and tire choices. FP2 saw a sunnier sky and a dryer track. Mercedes, Red Bull and Ferrari put on a double 1-2-3 with Hamilton leading Verstappen, Vettel, Bottas, Ricciardo and Raikkonen to the top. Fernando Alonso put in a respectable 7th with the two Force India’s rounding out the top 10. Vettel got a short amount of time on track due to some issues at the beginning of the session and then a slide into the gravel at turn 19. Overall, it appears Ferrari are still not on the pace with Mercedes despite the Italian team’s early season success.
