Speaking to Auto Bild, Helmut Marko made it clear Daniil Kvyat was out at Toro Rosso. “Kvyat will not return again, we do not believe he will make the turnaround in the long term,” he told the German magazine. “Gasly and Hartley are finishing the season, then we’ll see what happens.”
The former Red Bull driver was demoted last year to Toro Rosso prior to the Spanish GP and after a string of avoidable contacts, has been in a steady freefall in standing with Toro Rosso. Kvyat was stood down for the Malaysian and Japanese GPs with Pierre Gasly taking his seat. When Carlos Sainz made the move to Renault, Brendon Hartley was brought in to fill the seat and Kvyat returned for what is amounted to one race due to Gasly being in Japan to contest the Super Formula Championship. Daniil is still under contract with Red Bull, who could possibly place him in another racing series such as DTM.
