Japanese GP: Day 1

An eventful day at Suzuka for FP1 and FP2. Lewis Hamilton was fastest for the first part of FP1. That is, until Carlos Sainz lost control and put his Toro Rosso in the wall which red flagged the session. Sebastian Vettel then came out with the red stripes and set the fastest time and finished atop the grid with a 1:29.166, edging out Hamilton and Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo.

FP2 was also an abbreviated affair, with heavy downpours almost completely washing away the entire session. Only 5 drivers set timed laps in the rain. Hamilton led the group with a 1:48.719. Other than Lewis, only the Force India and Williams cars set a time with 6 drivers electing to not go out at all.
