Brendon Hartley, Le Mans 24 Hour winner and 2015 Sportscar champion, will join Daniil Kvyat and fill Pierre Gasly’s seat in the Scuderia Toro Rosso for the United States Grand Prix. Gasly will return to his Super Formula seat to contest the championship in Japan.
The opening has been left by the departure of Carlos Sainz, who will be taking Jolyon Palmer’s drive at Renault for the rest of the season and all of 2018. Toro Rosso has yet to confirm a full time lineup for the rest of their season and beyond.
Hartley tested for Toro Rosso twice in 2009 and was the team’s reserve driver. Having fielded Gasly alongside the departing Carlos Sainz in Japan, Toro Rosso will become the first team since Lotus in 1994 to run an entirely new driver line-up in consecutive Grands Prix.
